West Bengal School registers a record with a unique e-mag amid Covid

The record for releasing an extraordinary e-magazine ‘KPStellar’ during the pandemic was set by Krishnagar Public School, West Bengal. The quarterly (April - June) senior secondary school e-magazine includes contributions from the teachers, students and their parents. The magazine was made available on the school website on July 28, 2020. During the current pandemic when most schools are barely able to function through few virtual classes, this is one-of-a-kind initiative, as confirmed on August 10, 2020.

On asking what inspired this school to make this record, the principal replied, “The nation-wide lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic altered the lives of the students, teachers and parents leading to self-isolation turning it extremely stressful. We came up with this idea to provide a sense of happiness and satisfaction among students, teachers and parents at a time when their lives were significantly altered by the unusual experience of self-isolation during the pandemic. This one-of-a-kind e-magazine was intended to not only foster critical and creative thinking, but also develop aesthetic sense, cultural heritage of the nation and the global need for environmental awareness even during the challenging times.”

It's a Quarterly e-magazine. The team collected articles, and contributions from students, teachers and parents from the month of April to June 2020. The e-magazine was released on 28th July 2020. This is the first e-magazine published by any school during the pandemic, claimed Dr. Sankar Prasad Dutta.

The most interesting phase of the planning stage of the e-magazine was when the team received extraordinary response from the parents who eagerly contributed to the e-magazine with their own write-ups. The pandemic lockdown was an extremely challenging time, when students and teachers were all confined to their homes. Since many of the students belong to the economically weaker section and reside in interior rural parts, there is a huge digital divide and many of the students do not have sufficient access to digital devices and internet connectivity. This was the biggest challenge, said Mr Dutta.

Dutta said, “We feel proud at our achievement and we wish to continue to provide the best educational services and create many more unique records.”
